-- remember that to stop smoking requires discipline, will, and perseverance.

-- get busy and active because loneliness and idle lifestyle will tempt you to smoke.

-- convince yourself that stop smoking is good for your health and your pocketbook.

-- stay away from people who smoke such as family members, friends, and coworkers.

-- keep your hands busy. Hold your cellular phone or any other object instead of a cigarette.

-- use a hypnosis program or hypnotherapy, preferably with the help of a certified hypnotherapist.

-- ask your doctor about prescription and over-the-counter medications to help you stop smoking.

-- start using skin patches and special gums available over-the-counter at health food stores and supermarkets.

-- when your craving is strong, use a skin patch, chew gum, and/or exercise. Physical exercise will pump you up.

-- do not give up. If you start smoking again, remember that some people have to stop many times before they stop for good.
